In the 1980’s the U.S. Military was out of favor and offered a chance to see the world with a decent engineering education. Today the contrary move would be hard industries such as ‘critical’ metals extraction. The youth need tacit knowledge > using others capital to help one learn is an ideal strategy.

The escape from Detroit to Pennsylvania resulted in another opportunity in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Warren S. Sumner’s marking & sales prowess along with street smarts brought the family to a place which would forever change my life.

As a young boy I knew design, architecture and water sports were calling… never ignore primal instincts on the way to The Ultimate Ride > Act with passion in process, live where you belong and be with whom you love.

Crossroads in perception started with a visit to Arizona in December of 1986. At 16 years of age it was clear the design or Frank Lloyd Wright in Scottsdale was some type of alluring future… never understood the dynamics of generational migration or economic cycles… 

Despite early entry to ASU Tempe, AZ Architecture School the choice to give up freedoms for the future via U.S. Naval Academy & Navy Lacrosse was strategic decision to see the world with an engineering education for the low price of youthful time > which most likely would not have been productive - personally - in a U.S. college.

1994 > 1st Contrarian Victory - Military orders upon graduation from U.S. Naval Supply School in Athens, GA to The British East India Territory / Singapore provided the opportunity of a lifetime.

1995 > Final duty stations of Jersey City & Oakland, California helped see major U.S. cities with culture, attend some MBA accounting courses and interview architects & students regarding the potential design business.

Revisiting old friends & places helps crystallize our development…

Front Runner about actual actions > boots on the ground > lessons learned.

Continually evolving-

Acting for the USN in retail and logistics in Asia opened the mind to new cultures and envisioned real organic economic growth. Later working for Honeywell in purchasing and contracts was encouraged by my father to establish a good 3 years on the resume.

My father passed so quickly I wasn’t able to convey a few critical points discovered on the comeback. Embracing anti-fragility & discipline should have prepared me to act sooner.
