Barrick — the second-largest gold miner on Earth, with Nevada Gold Mines, Pueblo Viejo, Loulo-Gounkoto, Lumwana, 17 countries of operations — is worth $66 billion.
The gap between them is $4 billion.
Franco-Nevada, also mine-free, adds another $46 billion.
Two companies that have never dug an ounce are worth $108 billion combined. Their model: write checks to miners, collect metal at fixed prices for decades.
The market is paying almost the same for the contract as for the company holding the shovel.
